DIY daily routine chart
Let’s talk about one of parenting’s secret weapons: visual schedules! Kids thrive when they know what’s coming next, and I’ve got a super easy DIY project that turns routines into a fun, hands-on activity. I was inspired to make these by an Instagram ad for Tiny Rhythms!! Which, if you have the funds for, are SO CUTE and I highly recommend. However, my beige flag is that I am a good idea fairy and get obsessed with project ideas. My “I can do it myself” gene literally takes over every thought in my brain. In this case, I was obsessed enough I decided to create my own version of magnets. (I also did not have the budget to splurge on all the tiny rhythms I wanted, so I kind of had to go this route).
These DIY Magnets / DIY Daily Routine Chart is a project you can tackle in an afternoon! It’s affordable, customizable, and made with love. Thank you to Tiny Rhythms for the inspiration, I in no way take credit for the idea of these magnets!

What You’ll Need to make DIY daily routine chart magnets
Before we get started, gather these simple supplies (all linked to Walmart for easy shopping!):
- Magnetic sheets $2?!
- Printable paper – Here’s a great option
- Glue stick or double-sided tape – This one’s great
- Scissors – These are kid-friendly and precise
- Canva account – Free and fun for designing (or grab a set of pre-made designs from me here!)
- Walmart photo account if your printer is on the fritz like mine is (I printed on 8×10” pieces of photo paper!)
Step 1: Plan Your DIY Daily Routine Chart Rhythms
Start by brainstorming the daily rhythms or events you want to feature. Think about everything from “Brush Teeth” and “Storytime” to “Soccer Practice” or even “Free Play.” Keep it simple, colorful, and age-appropriate so your child can understand at a glance.
Step 2: Design Your Icons
This is where the fun begins! Head over to Canva and create small square or circle designs for each rhythm. I used bright colors and playful icons to make each one stand out. You can also include the day of the week above the magnets if you want a structured layout.
OR you can just use my template here. Please note these designs are intellectual property and for personal use only. I don’t feel right charging for an idea I literally ripped off another small business so please do not try to turn around and sell these templates I made inspired by that brand! Either buy magnets directly from Tiny Rhythms or use this free personal use template to make your own, for you.
Step 3: Print and Cut
Once your designs are ready, print them out on regular 4×6 paper (or photo paper for a smoother process). My printer was having a bad day and I have a Walmart .5 mile from my house, so I just ended up doing some one-hour 4×6 prints on matte photo paper which turned out really nice!
Step 4: Stick ‘Em to the Magnet Sheet
Take your sheets of rhythms and attach them to the adhesive side of the magnet sheet. If your sheet isn’t pre-sticky, use glue sticks or double-sided tape to secure them. Cut around the designs to make individual magnets. If you have a paper cutter like mine, it will be super easy! This project actually convinced me I needed one, because I did it without one and kept thinking about how much easier it would have been with one, haha! Luckily my sister got me one for Christmas so now we are good. (Yes, I did this project over 6 months ago and am just writing about it now. Such is my life, lol). If your kids are old enough, let them help—cutting practice is a sneaky fine motor skills exercise.
Step 5: Arrange and Enjoy!
Now the magic happens. Arrange the magnets on your fridge or a magnetic board under each day of the week. Show your child how to use them, and let them take part in setting up their schedule. We use them as part of our homeschool morning meeting. It is fun to involve kiddos in planning the week, too!
Why We Love These Magnets
- Visual Clarity: Helps kids anticipate the day’s events.
- Interactive Fun: A chance to engage with routines together.
- Customizable: Adapt as your child’s interests and activities change.
Bonus Tip: Pair this project with a family meeting at the start of the week to set expectations and involve your child in planning.
