Embossed Baby Hand and Foot Prints | DIY

Who is ready for the easiest DIY baby handprints EVER? I promised I would share what I ended up doing in lieu of Emme’s DIY baby handprints cornstarch ornaments! That project wasn’t a total fail but the ornaments did dry funny. They had wrinkles in the back and some cracks (it is very dry here in the winter). I just wasn’t totally happy with them so I brainstormed some other options. I remembered I still had all of the supplies from embossing our wedding invitations! What we ended up doing was seriously so easy. This is not a photo intensive post because it is literally four steps:

1. Touch hand or foot to Versaink pad and then press hand/foot to paper (I needed Edgar to hold Emme while I pressed her hand)

2. Dump embossing powder all over print

3. Shake the excess powder back into jar

4. Turn on heat gun and watch magic!

It’s seriously as easy as pie. (Although IDK why is that a saying because making pie is not that easy?) This is more like as easy as defrosting a Marie Calendar chocolate pie. Anyways, these were easy to mail too. You don’t get the depth you get in an impression on clay but you get more detail. You can see all of Emme’s little wrinkles and it is at least a little raised. So cute!

Supply List:

I purchased all of my supplies at the Paper Source when I lived in Old Town back in 2014. I had attended a super great DIY wedding invitation class at the store and learned how to do this. I included comparable Amazon links for you as well. You can get all sorts of of different embossing powder colors, too. I used this gold powder specifically. Then you can emboss using any stamp you have! You just need the special ink pad. The VersaMark pad is kind of like a tacky glue pad that holds the embossing powder until it is set with the heat.

  1. VersaMark Pad
  2. Gold Embossing Powder
  3. Craft Heat Gun (or I used this one from Paper Source)
  4. Watercolor Paper (Watercolor is what I had on hand, honestly you can use any paper you like) 5×7 or 6×9 is a good precut size for this project

The Paper Source also has a neat embossing set/bundle now. It includes pens so you can emboss your drawings and writing! 😍

If you did something else to capture your babies I would love to hear it! 💕 Tag me @meganleighacosta on IG if you decide to try this, too!
